the big payoff.

{the extent of my iphone photography skills...and editing skills, for that matter ;) }

well, my lovely dear followers {and all my amazing visitors!!}, i'm going to buy a camera.

um, yay!

i've only been blogging religiously for about...three weeks. even though i've had this little spot on the web since early january, my last semester in college/senior thesis kind of threw me for a loop. since then, i've peppered this little blog with bits and pieces of the summer. september brought a joy, and excitement for this story place. i realized there are oh so many gorgeous women/men blogging out there, and i wanted to be a part of the fun.

thus, the need for a camera.

i'm quite far from being a, 'photographer,' per say, but i do love taking pictures. they're nice and grainy/blurry thanks to my iphone camera, but hey! give me props for trying! ;)

that's why i've been shopping around for my own camera. i'll be traveling around africa for a month at the end of the year, and i'm sure it will come in amazingly handy. as of right now, i'm thinking of this one or this one. or maybe even this one.

any advice, my fellow bloggers? this itty-bitty amateur needs all the help she can get!

  2. A trip to Africa sounds so exciting!

    All excellent camera choices. I think my only piece of advice would be to consider how big of a camera can you tolerate carrying. I ended up buying a micro four-thirds because conventional DLSRs all seemed too big to carry to events and stuff.

  3. I really recommend you read http://thekeytotakingpictures.com/ it was amazing when I first wanted to buy and use a dslr. I ended up investing in a Nikon D90 and a 50mm f1.8 lens which has been so worth it :) But you might want to get a package lens kit if you are traveling so you have more options with taking pictures.

    Good luck and thanks for visiting my blog :)

  4. Hey Meg, thank you for stopping by at my place! :)
    I bought my first (and so far only) DSLR about 3 years ago with my very first salary I gained and it was totally worth it! But it really takes time until you know roughly how to handle it correctly. What I love about blogging is that I made so much progress in photography! In order to give my readers the best pictures of whatever I wanted to show I needed a lot of practice but it pays off in the end.

    As for advice, let me tell you - it is not THAT important what kind of camera you are buying, the magic lies within the lens. So you can buy a rather *cheap* DSLR and invest in some good lenses if you wanna come far without paying like 10000+ bucks. The camera body itself is able to adapt to a range of lenses so you might want to take that into consideration when buying a camera. :) Good luck!

  8. i would go with the canon t3i for now. it's a wonderful entry level d-slr camera and it gives you the option to shoot video as well, which i'm sure would come in very handy on safari in africa! i would wait until you've gotten a little more proficient with an slr and then upgrade to the 50d.

  10. I'm exactly the same! if you want a cheap camera, a fujifilm is great, although definitely not the coolest make. if you are a photography amateur like me though, you might not mind so much :)

  16. I think your photos are really nice, great job with the iPhone. I love your blog and can't wait to see the pictures from your to trip to Africa.
    I use a combination of iPhone and Canon Rebel T1i on my blog. I say go for a canon, but my real suggestion is find a store where you can hold the camera and play with it. Some camera's are heavier than others and you want to to be as comfortable as possible, as it will become a best friend when blogging. Once again loving the blog and following you on GFC!
